The Cult of Rossi???

Posted by Zoe Burn on June 24, 2008 4:15 PM

VALENTINO Rossi is without a doubt the greatest motorcycle racer of his generation if not ever....but this week I'm starting to wonder if he isn't, in fact, just bad for our sport.

I can hear the cries now (heaven knows I've heard them all before)...."what are you talking about woman?" ...."don't you know anything about bike racing?".....and then the old chestnut "What sort of journalist are you?".....but this time, I refuse to budge.

The reason for my sweeping statement comes on the back of the frankly disgusting behaviour of some of the great one's fans at Donington Park on Sunday.

There's Something About JT.......

Posted by Zoe Burn on April 24, 2008 3:38 PM

LAST year, two Brits went into the final round of their respective world championships with a chance of taking the prize.

One succeeded, one didn't, one became an overnight star, a national hero, while the other was lucky to get a quick guest spot on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards, and most of the population still don't even know who he is.

But surely the tide is set to change - James Toseland - aka JT - has the whole package to make him the UK's most famous sportsman. So when will the country realise?

RIP David Leslie....racing has lost a true gent.

Posted by Zoe Burn on April 2, 2008 3:38 PM

THIS week motorsport lost one of its greats.

He may not have been the most famous in the world, but I can say hand on heart that David Leslie was without doubt, the nicest driver I have ever met.

David was killed on Sunday evening when a plane he was travelling in crashed into a house in Kent. I saw the initial story on the news on Sunday night, but it wasn't until the next morning that I learnt that it was David.

Will MotoGP in the dark be a turn on??

Posted by Zoe Burn on March 4, 2008 3:22 PM

WHAT do you get if you cross a desert night, five million watts, 3600 floodlights and 18 of the world's fastest motorbikes?

The answer is history in the making as MotoGP chiefs stage their most ambitious race to date this coming weekend.

The dawn of the 2008 season looks set to be an illuminating experience for riders and fans alike, as the first ever night race roars into action on Sunday evening.

Muppets? Kermit and Co are in good company....

Posted by Zoe Burn on February 12, 2008 3:48 PM

DANIEL Day Lewis is a muppet.

Yes, you heard correctly. I have just likened one of movieland's most prolific stars to a puppet from a 70s TV show.

And you may be wondering what on earth a certain Mr Day Lewis and a pretty bad telly show - albeit with a funky theme tune - has possibly got to do with motorsport.

Well......it's all thanks to that multiple world champ Valentino Rossi and a bunch of notoriously scathing MotoGP fans.

What's in a Number....??

Posted by Zoe Burn on January 16, 2008 2:17 PM

MOTOGP pilot Chris Vermeulen has announced he will run the famous 'number seven' plate this year in a tribute to his hero Barry Sheene.

The hat-wearing Aussie will become the first Suzuki rider to run with the number since Sheene himself, finally having been able to snaffle it from the departed Carlos Checa.

For Vermin, it is the ultimate tribute to his mentor and the late great star of the 500ccGP era, and again it throws up the peculiarity that is numbers in bike racing.

Hands-Off Our 'Lops.

Posted by Zoe Burn on December 13, 2007 4:31 PM

WE lost our local factory back in July 2006.....and now it seems the death knell has sounded for Dunlop in UK's two-wheel motorsport industry.

Today the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board - the MCRCB - announced it has selected Pirelli as the sole supplier to the two highest profile series' in the UK - the British Superbike and British Supersport championships.

The three-year deal comes as the first since race chiefs decided to implement a single tyre manufacturer rule as of 2008.

Watch out BTCC....the North boys are coming.

Posted by Zoe Burn on December 5, 2007 9:40 AM

FOR many years, we Northern folk haven't really had that much to shout about in the world of motorsport, particularly that of the four-wheel variety.

Short of two-times BTCC champ James Thompson from Harrogate, Rally star Guy Wilks, Wearside's Warren Hughes - who, incidentally, should have been in F1 and in my opinion, was one of the best drivers to come out of UK during the 90s - and Jason Plato, who grew up in Toon before his family whisked him back down south, we've never really had that much to crow about.

But things are set to change.....

Meanie Greenies Have Finally Found Us...

Posted by Zoe Burn on November 27, 2007 4:29 PM

So, it's finally happened. They've got to us.

It was always just a matter of time, and now the greenies have infiltrated our sport.

This week, BTCC chiefs announced that it was to become the first racing series in the world of wheels and engines to stick a limit on CO2 emission levels produced by its competing cars.

As of 2009 - following a year of prepation and testing - emission testing will be introduced to all cars in the series.
