The Wing.jpgTHE news this week that MotoGP at Silverstone is to revert to the old pits has raised a few eyebrows.

Not two years on since the Wing opened its doors, motorcycle racing's premier series will abandon it this year and instead head back to the National paddock for the British Grand Prix in August.

According to Silverstone, the reason for the move is that customer feedback has revealed two-wheel fans prefer to get closer to the action while also being able to experience the entertainment, retail stands and manufacturer displays.

THE FIM has this morning announced the provisional MotoGP calendar for 2012.

Once again the season will kick-off under the famous floodlights of Losail on April 15, and end on November 11 at Valencia.

Silverstone will play host to the UK round on June 17, and the German GP will take place on July 8 at a venue to be confirmed.

The Ducati rider took the lead on the opening lap and kept an unchallenged lead all of the way to the chequered flag.

Polesitter Andrea Dovizioso was second, while Valentino Rossi edged out team-mate Jorge Lorenzo to grab the final podium spot.

JORGE Lorenzo has won the Air Aisa British MotoGP at Silverstone.

The Fiat Yamaha star dominated the 20-lap race around the Northants circuit, leading from the first lap all the way to the flag.

Repsol Honda's Andrea Dovizioso took a hard-fought second place, while rookie Ben Spies took a stunning third on the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 machine.

The Cult of Rossi???

VALENTINO Rossi is without a doubt the greatest motorcycle racer of his generation if not ever....but this week I'm starting to wonder if he isn't, in fact, just bad for our sport.

I can hear the cries now (heaven knows I've heard them all before)...."what are you talking about woman?" ...."don't you know anything about bike racing?".....and then the old chestnut "What sort of journalist are you?".....but this time, I refuse to budge.

The reason for my sweeping statement comes on the back of the frankly disgusting behaviour of some of the great one's fans at Donington Park on Sunday.
