WSB: Superpole cancelled after tragedy

TODAY'S Superpole session at Phillip Island has been cancelled following a fatal accident in an earlier support race.

It is believed Australian rider Oscar McIntyre was killed in a collision during the earlier Australian Superstock race.

Superpole was delayed as medics and police attended the scene but after an hour race chiefs decided to abandon the session completely.


This means Tom Sykes will start from pole in tomorrow's first round of the 2012 World Superbike Championship with results from second qualifying determining the grid.

Second is the Aprilia of Max Biaggi, while reigning champ Carlos Checa will start from third and Jakub Smrz fourth.
