Laverty's new bike and colours revealed
THIS is Eugene Laverty's new bike and team colours as he bids for World Superbike Championship glory in 2012.
The honorary Durham star joins racing legend Max Biaggi at the Aprilia Racing Team this season, and has already been tipped by many as the one to beat this year.
This week the team has finally unveiled its new colours and bike, with just a few weeks to go until the 2012 season kicks-off at Phillip Island, Australia at the end of the month.
Following his incredible rookie season last year, the Irishman believes his move to the famous Italian manufacturer will give him his best chance yet to lift his first world championship.
He will ride the iconic Aprilia RSV4 machine which Biaggi rode to championship glory in 2010.
"had a promising start when I tested my new bike for the first time at Portimao. I found a good feeling right from my first laps on the RSV4 and the guys in the team made me feel like part of the family straight away," he revealed.
"In any case I won't underestimate the foreseen difficulties that come with a new adventure like this one."
Laverty has said from the outset he has his eyes firmly on taking the title this year, even though he knows it will be far from an easy ride.
"I won't make a secret of the fact that I'd like to make it to the podium often and take home some victories. We'll see about the rest as we go along.
"If everything goes smoothly I think the year will bring us some nice satisfaction. It's too early for predictions... we'll talk again in a few months!"
The 2012 World Superbike Championship roars into action at Phillip Island, Australia on February 26.
