BSB: Croft axed as Brit Supers go Dutch

By Burning Rubber on Nov 21, 11 10:18 AM

Dutch superbikes.jpgTHE North East will not host a round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship next season after Croft has been sensationally cut from the calendar.

Instead, the series will cross the channel to The Netherlands as it tackles the famous Assen Circuit for the first time in September

It is believed that Croft had turned down the offer of a round of the successful and highly popular championship next year as it struggles to work around its tight noise restrictions.

The TT Circuit Assen is considered the most historic motorcycle racing circuit in the world, having hosted the premier class World Championship every year since 1949 and it is acknowledged as "The Cathedral" of motorcycling.

As has become the traditon, the 2012 BSB series will kick-off at Brands Hatch over the Easter weekend and then head straight across to Thruxton in Andover the following week.

The nearest North fans will get to the action is Knockhill, Scotland, which keeps its June slot

The usual August Brands Hatch round on the Grand Prix circuit has been brought forward to July 20-22 July to avoid a clash with the London Olympic Games.

Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive, MotorSport Vision said: "The 2012 BSB calendar is the strongest ever and this is a tribute to the extraordinary health of BSB amidst tough economic conditions that are a major challenge to many other series.

"It has always been a priority for MSVR to drive down the costs of competing in BSB with sport-leading technical regulations whilst driving up the quality of the show.

"As a result BSB is becoming ever more attractive to manufacturers, teams, riders, sponsors, circuits and fans, which means 2012 is likely to be BSB's best year yet".

This is terrible news.

The series is a joke now, give it another year and Silverstone Donnington and Knockhill will go just so Palmer can stuff his greedy pockest by having them at his own tracks.
