Camier holds off Easton to grab another win
BY Zoe Burn and Mic Archbold.
LEON Camier made sure it was back to business as usual as he clocked up yet another win in the first of today's MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship races at Oulton Park.
The newly-crowned champion this time managed to hold off a last lap charge by Hydrex Honda's Stuart Easton to take yet another win for Airwaves Yamaha.
His Cumbrian team-mate, James Ellison, crossed the line third ahead of the second Hydrex bike of Tommy Hill.
After yesterday's hard-fought scrap, today's opening BSB race was much less eventful, and another win by Camier never really looked in doubt.
As ever, it was Easton who got the best getaway at the green light, but by the time the pack had reached Lodge corner, Ellison was ready to make a move, pushing past and into the lead.
As Easton and Hill sat second and third, Camier began his charge from behind, taking third spot from Hill on Lap Three.
On Lap Seven he made his move past Easton and tucked in behind Ellison. Here he sat for just three more laps before he made the move on the tenth lap, passing his team-mate for the lead.
Half a lap later the Safety Car came out to deal with suspected oil on the track from a blow by MSS Colchester Kawasaki's Julien Da Costa, but it only stayed out two laps, which meant the whole field wasn't able to capitalise and bunch up close.
This didn't matter to the frontrunners, and as soon as it went in it was business as usual for Camier, as he led the pack into the closing laps.
Just as it was beginning to look like another Airwaves 1-2, Easton turned up the heat and made a move past Ellison on Lap 13, setting the fastest lap of the race and looking like he could be a serious threat to Camier.
But his attempts for a carbon copy of Saturday's race - where he passed Camier for the win on the final lap - didn't pay off this time, and despite taking a couple of looks on the closing lap, he was unable to get close enough for the pass, and had to settle for second.
Meanwhile further back, Allendale's Graeme Gowland did return to the track today, despite pitching his Motorpoint Henderson Yamaha into the lake yesterday after a massive crash.
The submerged bike, which was pulled out looking very sorry for itself, looked brand new today after mechanics worked through the night to get it back together.
However, Gowland was unusually off the pace, and struggled throught he whole race, eventually crossing the line in 15th, two places ahead of Knaresborough's Dan Linfoot on the Node4 Yamaha.
Karl Harris did not line-up, nor will be taking part in the second of today's races after his massive off during yesterday's race where he suffered some concussion.
However he was at the track and in fine spirits when he walked into the media centre this morning - which is up two large flights of stairs - although he admitted he can't remember much about the incident, and was only aware of exactly how it happened when he saw the video replay at the track this morning.
