Ellison: No team orders at Airwaves
BY ZOE BURN AND MIC ARCHBOLD
CUMBRIA'S James Ellison says there are no team orders as the Airwaves Yamaha boys start tomorrow's two races from first and second on the grid.
The former MotoGP rider from Kendal says he has not been told to concede to team-mate Leon Camier as the MCE British Superbike Championship heads into its penultimate round at Silverstone.
Speaking after this afternoon's Swan Combi Roll for Pole session, Ellison admitted he was happy to be within reach of Camier, both in lap times and in terms of the championship.
Although Camier does have a commanding lead - one win tomorrow would leave him needing just half a point to wrap the championship up at Silverstone - in bike racing anything can happen, and Ellison will be making sure he is close by to capitalise if it should.
And he says there has been no word from team manager Colin Wright telling him to concede to Camier.
"At the moment, there aren't any team orders, we're out there fighting," he revealed. "There has been no talk within the team of me allowing Leon past or anything like that, so we're both in it to win it.
"I think it's probably because Airwaves has already wrapped up the manufacturers title, and we know that it's going to be one of us which does win, so I think Colin is letting us fight it out on track.
"Obviously I don't know what could happen...perhaps things could change but at present, we have no team orders and are looking forward to a strong, safe race."
Ellison lines up second on the grid behind Camier, but given Camier's reputation for making terrible starts, it is likely he will have his work cut out if the Cumbrian gets a flyer at the lights.
