Empire of the Sun

By Two Point Four Children on Jul 8, 09 10:39 PM

Son No Two aged sixteen uncovered this band when he heard an instrumental piece of music on a Film Four advert. He then trawled the internet to see who was behind it. He's been listening to them for months now.

Empire of the Sun's music is described on the web as Eighties Electro Pop, Italian Pop, sunny, tropical, experimental, blissed out. The band members are portrayed as Australian fantasy pop heroes on a spiritual mission. To quote myspace music: World domination quite literally awaits - NME.

They came fourth in the BBC Sound of List 2009 and their debut album 'Walking on a Dream' has surpassed platinum sales in Australia.

I have heard their music discussed at length on Radio One and described as feel good summer music. I have also heard it played on Terry Wogan's show on Radio Two.

My husband and our friends love it. My colleagues at work say that it's the type of music that you want to immediately sing along to but you can't because you don't know any of the words... My husband's mates along at the local pub are also huge fans.

I've just moved to a new office location which means more travelling and I've played the CD in the car every day since I moved there in May. It's certainly got me through many a boring traffic jam and endless queues at traffic lights and roundabouts first thing in the morning.

Everyone who has been a passenger has attempted to sing along, asked who the band is, why haven't they heard this before and where can they buy it.

In the car park at Bamburgh last weekend, overlooking the beautiful beach and sand dunes, we had 'Empire of the Sun' music playing loudly with the car doors wide open. I was stunned when I heard a much older man who was passing say, 'That music makes me feel like a teenager again.'

It's that generation thing again. Strange how this music appeals to sixteen year olds as well as to many other, older age groups. As far as I'm concerned Empire of the Sun have got it just right...

Must go now, there's free streaming of Empire of the Sun's videos on MySpace Music...

Must try to listen to these wonderful musicians you write about.I am not sure being on the Terry Wogan programme is such a good recommendation or playing loud music at Bamburgh is such a good idea.
