Rea of Sunshine...Johnny wins Race Two.

rea blog.jpgJOHNNY Rea stole his maiden World Superbike win in Race Two at Misano.

The HANNSpree Ten Kate rider emerged victorious after a battle royale with the Ducati Xerox duo of Michel Fabrizio and Noriyuki Haga.

The pair finished the 24-lap race second and third respectively.

At the green light, it was points leader Haga who got the best start, launching into P1 with Rea and Fabrizio following close behind.

Race One winner Ben Spies had a difficult start, crossing the line fifth at the end of the first lap, but things went from bad to worse a lap later when he appeared to suffer mechanical problems, putting his hand up and dropping back to 15th.

On Lap Four, Rea made the move on Haga to take the lead, as Fabrizio closed in on his team-mate, passing him a lap later.

The pair continued to swap positions for a handful of laps, before Fabrizio made a pass stick and set off after Rea, passing him on Lap 17.

The closing laps became a battle of attrition between the duo, with Haga remaining close enough to keep them both honest, and although Fabrizio started the final lap in front, Rea soon passed him and was able to keep him behind him all the way to the chequered flag.

Haga, still injured from his crash in America earlier this month, finished third, to give his championship lead a boost.

Spies managed to bounce back, and finally crossed the line in a respectable ninth.

Shane Byrne was second Brit across the line in sixth, leading a UK trio with Tom Sykes and Leon Haslam in seventh and eighth.

The result looks to be bad news for Spies' championship chase...Haga now sits at the top of the points table on 292, while Spies is on 244 and Fabrizio closes the gap considerably on 237.
