Burns pipped to podium but takes fourth
CHRIS Burns narrowly missed out on a podium in Race One of the IDM German Superbike Championship at Sachsenring.
The Newcastle rider was beaten across the line into fourth place by Gunther Knobloch, having come through the pack from 10th on the grid.
But the Holzhauer Honda Racing rider was still able to set the fastest time on the last lap, and hopes he can go one better in this afternoon's second race.
Burns had made a good start, making his way up to fifth by the end of the fourth lap, and kept pushing to make it up to third as the final lap got underway.
And although he was third coming out of the final corner, he was unable to keep the momentum needed to keep Knobloch - who had led the earlier part of the race - at bay.
"I was third out of the last corner but I just couldn't match him coming over the line," the Geordie revealed to Burning Rubber this afternoon.
"I'm pleased with the result, although I really would've loved that podium. I also got the fastest lap there at the end, so this has been a real boost to my confidence as we go into Race Two later."
The race was won by the Honda of Arne Death, with Jorg Teuchert second and Knobloch third.
