Linfoot pipped by charging Kennaugh
British Supersport Championship at Donington Park....By Zoe Burn and Mic Archbold.
HUDSON Kennaugh snatched pole from under the nose of Knaresborough's Dan Linfoot in the searing Donington heat this afternoon.
The South African will line up at the head of the grid for tomorrow's Fuchs-Silkoline British Supersport Championship event at the Derbyshire track.
But second-placed Linny won't be too disappointed to be lining up alongside him at the front of the pack, having looked strong all weekend.
Having ended first qualifying in third place, Linfoot had been consistently sitting in the top five during the early part of the second session.
And with just five minutes to go, the 20-year-old took the top spot on his North West 200 Coca Cola Zero Yamaha R6 machine.
As the seconds ticked by, it looked like he would hold onto the spot, but just two seconds before the chequered flag, Kennaugh's Linxcel-Seton Tuning Yamaha stole the place.
Guisborough-born Dennis Hobbs starts on the second row from seventh place.
Onboard the AIM Yamaha, Hobbs had battled to make his way up through the order after ending first qualifying in a lowly 17th.
But the lanky rider refused to give up, consistently putting in better times on the distinctive red and white machine, to finally grab seventh in the dying seconds of the session.
