Camier takes opening win at Thruxton

Don Camier 1 Small.jpgLEON Camier led an Airwaves Yamaha 1-2 with a victory in Race One of the ViSK British Superbike Championship at Thruxton.

The local rider recovered from one of his trademark bad starts to storm back to the lead just five laps in, and staying there all the way to the chequered flag.

His team-mate, Cumbria's James Ellison crossed the line in second place, ahead of Howick's Stuart Easton in third.

It was the Kendal rider who got the holeshot at the green light, while Camier went down to third and Easton capitalised, shoving the Hydrex Honda up to second.

Camier made his move on Easton on Lap Three, diving down the inside at Cobb to move second, and it wasn't long before he seared past Ellison to take the lead.

"That race was really hard work and the front tyre was moving around a bit because of the heat. I was lacking a bit of grip but I got into a rhythm and just got my head down although pace not as consistent as I would have wanted," said Camier.

"The race pace was slower than what we had been doing here in qualifying and practice but it worked out, I have another win and I feel really good about it."

Northumberland's Graeme Gowland who is still nursing a broken collarbone, rode a strong and steady race to finish 12th on the Henderson/Motorpoint Honda.
