How the BBC came good for Gaza
Thanks to the BBC for their contribution to the Gaza appeal.
Yes, that's right, thanks to the BBC (you can mentally cap up the word, put it in lights, or find other ways to highlight).
The BBC's decision not to broadcast the appeal made sure it was on the news agenda.
And that, in turn, meant more people knew about it than if the appeal had gone ahead on the BBC without any fanfare.
In the end the BBC's decision to sit on the fence meant not just a splinter in the backside.
It meant the appeal got the publicity it would never have got otherwise and. in a roundabout way, it's all down to director general Mark Thompson.
The people of Gaza should be delighted with his efforts on their behalf.

Mark Thompson subjected himself to a two fingers up humiliation on BBC Breakfast this morning when the journalists showed him exactly what they thought by beaming the appeal up behind him whilst he was explaining exactly why the BBC would never show it. You can see it here: www.duckrabbit.info/blog
