This week has started off with good intentions but I'm afraid my enthusiasm for exercise has left me unable to do any running so far. On Monday I decided that I would go for a good swim at my local pool. But instead of getting the bus into town I thought I would walk the two and a half miles saving a bit of money and gently warming myself up. This it turned out was a mistake.....
Anyone out there read Shane Watson's latest book, catchily entitled "How to Meet A Man After 40"? No? Well folks, you're in for a treat.
When I first read the title, I confess I was puzzled. I mean, after 40 what? Vodka and tonics? Press-ups? Internet visits to Match.com?
Well, no, actually. It seems the delightful Ms Watson, having finally hooked her own bloke three years ago (the poor sod is referred to as The One) is now able to fret in a particularly smug manner at the plight of her single, aged sisters.
Thanks to the BBC for their contribution to the Gaza appeal.
Yes, that's right, thanks to the BBC (you can mentally cap up the word, put it in lights, or find other ways to highlight).
It might just be my mucky mind.
Have you seen the current TV advert for the Foster A Future campaign by Newcastle City Council to find new foster parents? It features thumbs representing people in what looks like a Punch and Judy tent with a voiceover about how fostering can help children.
About those thumbs. They look like....
Hello. Did a six mile run last night and managed to complete it in 52 minutes which I thought was ok. It means an average of one mile every eight and a half minutes. I know that by some people's standards that's a bit slow but I'm not entering the Flora London Marathon with any great ambition to get round in a record time....
Hello again. The last time I blogged I was about to cycle 18 miles home after work. I was a little bit worried about riding on the roads in the dark so had invested in lots of lights and reflective strips - so much so that I described myself as being 'Lit up like a Christmas tree'.....
Hello again. Well I am here sat at my desk with only 45 minutes left until the end of the working day and I am really looking forward to getting out of here. Not because I don't like my job! But because I am cycling home tonight. I live 18 miles away from the office so I thought getting home under my own power would be a decent little work out.....
There's nothing sadder than a pair of middle-aged blokes trying to be cool.
That was the case with Oz Clarke and James May when they tried to recapture their lost youth on a night out in the Bigg Market.
Hello and welcome to my new blog. I have decided I want to run the Flora London Marathon and thought I would chronicle my ups and downs here on the web for the whole wide world to see.
There have been a few people who have asked me why I want to run 26.2 miles around the roads of London and the only answer I can come up with is as Georgre Mallory said of Everest 'Because it is there'...
Getting rid of the dependence on oil for cars would have a huge impact on your carbon footprint.
But it seems like a HUGE task.
Here is someone who might just do it.
