Why support a Local Climate Change Partnership?

By Trash Talk on Oct 14, 08 04:28 PM

Many people think that our two-percent contribution to global carbon emissions is neither here nor there in relation to China's or America's total.

Why it matters will be the subject of the talk by Ashok Sinha, Director of Stop Climate Chaos on Thursday 23 October in Elvet Riverside Room 140, Old Elvet, (opposite Police Station), Durham from 7.30-9pm.

Durham Friends of the Earth chose One World Week for this talk in order to highlight the global problem of climate change. Choices we make impact harshly upon people the other side of the world, including many of the poorest and most vulnerable. Ashok will be talking about the political challenge of decarbonising our society, providing a national and global picture.

This evening provides an opportunity to bring together local people to discuss ways in which people can work on a local response to climate change. It is intended that a Durham Climate Change Partnership will be formed to focus on what we might do together to combat climate change including cutting our emissions and highlighting local environmental, social and economic impacts. If successful it would be one of the first 'grassroots' partnerships of this kind to be set up in the UK.
