A very blue Peter
Blue Peter celebrates its 50th birthday next week in a fanfare of publicity from the BBC.
There's lots happening - a live hour-long extended version of the show, current and selected former presenters having tea with the Queen, and the return of Peter Purves with a quiz on Blue Peter's history.
Wanna bet some of the show's more colourful presenters won't get a mention....
So here's my own set of questions to redress the balance.
1 Which presenter was at the centre of allegations of rape and a home video showing a threesome where he invited another man to grope his then-girlfriend?
2 Which presenter hit the headlines with his drugs habit.
3 Which Newcastle-born presenter, who later died of a AIDS-related illness, was photographed with a male stripper in a nightclub.
4 What BBC programme, currently celebrating its 50th birthday, was caught up in a phone-in scandal.
Answers are John Lesley, a bloke called Bacon, Michael Sundin and er, Blue Peter itself.
On a more innocent note did you know:
+ John Noakes was asked to drop his trousers to show bruises sustained in a bobsleigh stunt.
He did so - not realising he was wearing his wife's knickers. They were put on by accident when he dressed in the dark.
+ One household name who failed an audition to become a Blue Peter presenter was our very own Kevin Whately of Auf Weidersehen Pet fame.
Perhaps it's just as well. Appearing in the same show as a sex pest, a drug-taker, an AIDS victim frequenting gay nightclubs, and a bloke with a dog fixation who wears his wife's smalls might not have done much for his clean-cut image.
He was far too squeaky-clean for a show like Blue Peter,
