University, Summer School and Works Experience
Son No One has just given us a wonderful surprise by passing the first year of his university course and announcing he won't be deferring for a year after all...
I think a few weeks of full time work, battling with public transport and early mornings, hadn't quite turned out as expected. I can't describe what a relief this is, after weeks of thinking that he'd never get round to going back to finish his studies once he'd joined the working world...
Meanwhile Son No Two is having a very busy time lately. First he had the opportunity to go to Summer School at Newcastle University, staying there for two nights in the Halls of Residence. He really enjoyed the experience though he said most of his money had gone on food because the food provided was like primary school dinners. If he goes to University he says he'll have to do all his own cooking. Says he lived on Pot Noodles and crisps. Oh and he needed a cheque to go towards the cost of Enrichment Week. And it was non uniform day. It was also pelting down with rain and today was the day they were going to build shelters and learn survival skills in a forest in Durham...
This week he's on Works Experience at an urban clothes store in Newcastle. He's having a great time discovering how a shop is run and drinking coffee and so far doesn't even seem to mind getting up early to catch the bus, the longer hours, doing the hoovering and sorting out the stock room. Today he says he actually sold some stuff. What worries me is how many clothes he's going to want me to buy before the end of the week...
