Mr Smug rides again

Posted by Ian Robson on July 3, 2008 11:46 AM |

A smug b+++++d has made his return to Police Camera Action.

Remember Alistair Stewart. He was the finger-wagging tut-tutting holier than thou presenter of the series on dangerous drivers.

The same Alistair Stewart who got nicked for drunk driving.

But that fact was strangely missing from ITV1s publicity for the new series.

Not a word was mentioned. It was as if the incident had been air-brushed from history.

But I remembered.

I've always hated the kind of show where presenters put on a sniffy voice and talk down to the rest of us mere mortals.

Stewart is a master at the kind of commentary that oozes upper-class shock horror at the antics of ordinary people.

And he was in his element pontificating about dirty little oiks putting the public at risk by their bad driving.

Wake up and smell the coffee, Stewart, that dirty little oik putting the public at risk by getting pissed at the wheel is you!

The first show in the new series looked at five different types of motorist who are the scourge of the road.

They were boy racers, pensioners, school run mums, travelling reps, and the notorious white van man.

A sixth category could have been included: smug TV presenters who think its OK to get sloshed behind the wheel.
