As thick as a pig farmer
Thank you, Tim Healy, for perpetuating the image of Geordies as thickos.
That was sarcasm, by the way, I didn't really mean thank you.
Tim appeared in the 1960s Northumberland cop show George Gently as a pig farmer who was intellectually-challenged.
His character Jim was SO intelletectually challenged that he struggled to work out what happened to the former POW stationed at his farm once the war was over.
He said: "Gunter's inta another kind a farming noo. Farmer, farmer......"
Jim was obviously struggling with his words and was helped out by another family member who finished the sentence for him.
"Farmer Cueticals."
It turned out Gunter had gone into another kind of farming called pharmaceuticals.
No-one does down to earth Geordie types better than Tim.
His role in George Gently was no exception but there comes a time when it turns into caricature.
Having a Geordie pig farmer as thick as pig s+++ did a disserrvice to the region and to Tim.
Tim could easily have put more into the role than the limited contribution the writers of George Gently had in mind.
Instead we were left with the kind of word play an O level English student finds hilarious.
Wor Tim is a great actor but he's not thick and nor should all of his roles.
And he's definitely not as thick as the author responsible for this writing-by-numbers pig poo.
