The worms have arrived
I took delivery of worms for my wormery yesterday. The receptionist at Premier Waste Management was quick to let me know the parcel had arrived.
In the evening my daughter and I carefully tore open the envelope and gently shook what looked like a loose lump of mud into the wormery.
That doesn't look too bad I thought as I watched a few small worms wriggling about. But they are not going to eat much - I thought they'd be bigger. Then we stuck our hands in to spread them out...
Our hands entered a solid mass of worms, big fat ones, short ones, thin ones, long ones, all bundled together in gang in the centre of the soil.
Yeuuuuurgh we chorused and quickly removed our hands and then started to laugh as we continued to stir them in.
This turned out to be more difficult than I thought. The worms wanted to stay in a bundle and they really liked the centre of the worm bin. The wife finally came to the rescue and gently stirred them into the bedding material using a trowel.
The next step, once they have settled in, is to begin feeding them my kitchen scraps.
I am following the advice given by Ronnie in a response to my first post about wormeries to not feed them very much in the initial stages.
Any more advice for a novice worm wrangler would be greatly appreciated.
