The Blaydon Races as performed by a fit lass

By Blog on the Box on Apr 26, 08 04:10 PM in

Oh me lads you should have heard her singing the Blaydon Races.

Myleen Klass was a class act when she tried her hand at singing the Geordie anthem for The One Show.

This blog is billed as a cheeky take on TV but on this occasion I can't think of a derogatory thing to say.

No cheek this time. Just an appreciation of a star giving our song a good try and obviously enjoying herself.

And at least she did it better than a few fat blokes in the Bigg Market on a Saturday night after the match.

Even better, dare I say, than United chairman Chris Mort's party piece at Blu Bambu the other day.

Myleen was in Newcastle for an item on why the song by Geordie Ridley has stood the test of time.

She visited St James Park for a short duet with football fan Steve Wraith.

Not so much all the lads and lasses, then, but one lad and one lass having a sing-song.

She also chatted to folks in the street - and got some admiring glances from blokes leaving the Metro station - for a few more renditions.

And she was at Balmbra's, where the legendary day trip left from, to discuss the history behind the song.

Well done, Myleen, great to see a game lass giving it a bit of throat. Can we make her an honorary Geordie, please.

And, while we're at it, how about making musical maestro Tim Rice an honorary Makem.

He was on the same show explaining why, as a London schoolboy, he came to support Sunderland.

Apparently all the lads picked a team to support and the young Rice opted for Sunderland because it sounded like a faraway place full of beautiful beaches and palm trees.

Poor deluded man!

What's more he claimed never to have sung the Blaydon Races because of its connection to rival team Newcastle.

With taak like that he might end up with two black eyes and a broken nose on the way to Blaydon races.
