Home for the weekend
Son No. 2 has been home from Uni for the weekend. With a big blue plastic Ikea bag full of washing and some even bigger news...
It's all or nothing. Having spent the whole of the Easter weekend worrying that this was the first Easter ever he hasn't been at home, we have now had the pleasure of his company for two weekends running...His Easter eggs were lined up for collection as well as the thirty or so odd socks breeding in the back of the airing cupboard...
'How can you blame me for these?' he says, 'when I don't even live here?' (I bet he's got all their partners back in Manchester though)...
The big news is that he will be deferring from his University degree for a year. Or so. The thing is, he already worked for a year before he started University and wasn't too keen on it. Why can't he just finish his course first? Devastated, the whole family tries to talk him out of it but he is determined.
He has a full time job in Manchester with time off for his exams. He has arranged his accommodation. He is going to make some money, hopefully go travelling and then go back to complete his course...
I know he's 'New Age' and I have no idea what it's like being a kid at University in Manchester. I also know one kid in four drops out of University these days.
However at this rate Son No. 2 will be starting University and Son No. 1 will still be there. I'm never going to be able to give up work and write my bestseller...And I dread to think what the sock situation is going to be like...

Hi Arlene
You never know he might earn enough to pay for the rest of his course...
As for the socks, the local playgroup may be grateful for them for sock puppets!
Brilliant stuff Arlene!
