Dance City
The only conference I've ever been to in trainers and a suit...
I was lucky to be part of an educational team from Comenius North East who organized a Music and Movement Conference at the fabulous Dance City in Newcastle last week. Entitled 'Moving on Up', the aim of the conference was to help to embed languages into the curriculum using music and movement. Approximately one hundred and sixty primary teachers from around the North East attended, some delegates even travelling from as far away as Guisborough for the event.
And what a fantastic event it was...Delegates were able to choose from such workshops as salsa, aerobics and a parachute game, the only stipulation being no outdoor footwear on the studio floors!
We were entertained by children from three local primary schools and as a special finale, were joined by the winners of the Linguavision Song Contest. This was held as part of the Festival of International Culture at Newcastle University a few weeks ago and the winners were eight children from a Whitley Bay primary school.
The food was absolutely great and I can recommend Dance City's Urban Café. Everything is created from fresh ingredients every day and the Danish pastries, quiche and smoothies are to die for...If I'd had the time I'd have been able to sit at one of the outdoor tables in the sunshine...
Everyone was exhausted at the end of the day but we were all in agreement that we should run 'Moving On Up 2' next year...
