April 2008 Archives

Every wondered what the number in the triangle on a plastic bottle means.

They mean something to waste recyclers and you can increase your recycling by picking the lower numbers.

Oh me lads you should have heard her singing the Blaydon Races.

Myleen Klass was a class act when she tried her hand at singing the Geordie anthem for The One Show.

Blowing Hot Air

I was amused and deflated when I read an article regarding the great ‘Highland Bagpipes’,

LAST year, two Brits went into the final round of their respective world championships with a chance of taking the prize.

One succeeded, one didn't, one became an overnight star, a national hero, while the other was lucky to get a quick guest spot on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards, and most of the population still don't even know who he is.

But surely the tide is set to change - James Toseland - aka JT - has the whole package to make him the UK's most famous sportsman. So when will the country realise?

You see some strange things in the waste and recycling business. While doing some research into composting methods for Premier Waste Management I came across a new method of disposal for human remains.

Freezing your dead.

Home for the weekend

By Two Point Four Children on Apr 23, 08 08:40 PM

Son No. 2 has been home from Uni for the weekend. With a big blue plastic Ikea bag full of washing and some even bigger news...

A COUPLE of students of mine were going home recently when they were pulled over by the boys in blue.

The excuse (not that they need one) by the police was that the car they were travelling in was not registered as being from that area.

Asking the lads what it was they had in the back of the car one of my students answered: “Weapons, swords and sticks and things.

An honest answer, if not maybes the most sensible one!

The copper took a step back with a sharp intake of breath and was most likely thinking about backup, helicopters and the armed response unit!

Richard and Judy RIP

By Blog on the Box on Apr 17, 08 12:11 PM

Richard and Judy are hardly the big TV names they used to be.

Now, with their chat show showing signs of middle age, they are moving to a channel watched by one man and his dog.

Life's short

By Ken Oxley on Apr 15, 08 05:04 PM

I wrote my mum's life story the other day . . . on half a sheet of A4 paper.

It was a weird experience, having to sum up 76 years in a few carefully chosen sentences.
