In Search of the man with beard and banjo
From the salubrious village (Glanton) in Northumberland, a small band of pilgrims gathered to take to the road in search of the man whose very songs and lyrics would illuminate our lives .
âÂÅ ..âÂÂyou hardly ever saw Grandaddy down here, he only came to town about twice a yearâÂÂâŠâÂÅ ..
Music lifts the soul as we all know, provides a sense of well-being, is the source of lyrics that sustain our lives and provides a memorable route into the brain (fused into the synapses). Memories are the by-product of this energy and this will be our food into our dotage as the melodies and rhythms keep our feet moving even as OAPâÂÂs.
âÂÅ ..âÂÂI volunteered for army on my birthdayâÂÅ draft the white trash first âÂÂround here, anyway..âÂÂâŠâÂÅ
From Chatton, Powburn, Eglingham, Whittingham and Wooler the hordes descended, jumped into the charabang in search of the bearded Texan. This son-of âÂÂa-preacher-man is not only a fantastic song-writer (some think the best today), can deliver fine songs, has an amazing back-catalogue of genre skipping songs, country, folk, white trash blues, rock fusionâÂÅ .
âÂÅ .âÂÂI plant it up the holler down copperhead road,âÂÅ ..
The message is âÂÂget out of the war Bushâ âÂÅ the USA is morally bankruptâÂÅ and has charged headlong into corruption and bankruptcy. Not new themes, but still poignant as the US teeters on the brink and has done and will continue to do. (How that ex-choir boy Blair could have been sucked in?). Still Thatcher courted Dictators like Pinochet and she was the role model. Sorry I digressâÂÅ .can you see who it is yet?
âŠâÂÂyou go to school so you learn to read and writeâÂÅ .walk into the county bank and sign away your lifeâÂÂâÂÅ .
Tales of alienation and disillusionmentâÂÅ ..much like the dark gloomy days of the Northumbrian forays in historyâŠâÂÅ
âÂÅ ..â of fierce and border forays, full of darkness , theft and crime,
when the Percy and the Douglas, waged war in olden timesâÂÂâÂÅ ..
The bearded man with the banjo came and brought some light into our lives, a song smith a wordsmith a lyricistâÂÅ ..these are the things that sustain us all in the course of our livesâÂÅ it is always music that people remember even in the most befuddled brain.
âŠâÂÂlast night I had a dream ..that the world had turned aroundâÂÂâÂÅ
From the green verdant hills in the north up the valleys of Northumberland a red haired girl from Alwinton comes down singing soft songsâÂÅ .the revolution starts now..in your own backyard ,in your own hometownâÂÅ ..searching for the Texan with the beard and the banjoâÂÅ ..The bearded Texan with the banjoâŠâÂÂthe revolution starts nowâÂÂâÂÅ
