Drink wine and live forever. Possibly

By Booze Blog on Nov 14, 07 04:24 PM

Being a regular drinker, and a bit of hypochondriac, I search out stories about the health giving properties of wine as keenly as Steve McClaren looks for articles saying he's a great coach.

As football fans can guess, I'm a lot more successful.

Wine - most notably red - has been linked with cures for everything from Alzheimer's to various cancers.

A favourite of mine a while back was that it could - possibly - prolong your life and, even more astonishingly, help those who have struggled in the past, to rise to the occasion in the bedroom.

Another not so surprising one was that drink made you find the opposite sex more attractive, but sadly that's a one way street.

Recently it was revealed that pregnant women can get hammered as it doesn't harm the baby. Which kind of flew in the face of a report a month ago which said the opposite.

The thing is, nobody really knows, and as they say what you don't know can't hurt you - and as good a reason to crack open a bottle as I can think of.

Worth a try this week, if you like a white, is the Xplorador Chardonnay Reserva 2006 currently on offer at the Co-op, reduced from £9.99 to £5.99 until December 2. Nice buttery notes with strong citrus and peach flavours with a pleasant smokiness. Try it out, let me know what you think.
